Getting Started
with N° 9 Revision 595 (Q2 2022)

Before you do anything else, you might want to adjust the fit and color of your new N° 9 collar, and depending where you bought your collar, it will either come with a texture change HUD, or an integrated color change feature in the collar's About menu. Let's go there first.

Accessing the Menus

The collar menus can be accessed in multiple ways. Touching the avatar's neck, typing a command in the Nearby Chat, triggering a gesture via text or hotkey, or clicking a HUD. You can open your own collar menu with the command:

Just write the command in the Nearby Chat, and your collar menu will appear.

All recent versions of N° 9 Series 500 come boxed with a gesture "/mycollar (F9)".

To use the gesture, right-click it in your inventory and select "Activate", and once activated you can type /mycollar in the Nearby Chat to trigger the gesture. With an active gesture, the command will not be visible to others at all, and vanish as soon as it has been triggered.

The gesture can also be triggered with the F9 key on your keyboard.

If you already have other gestures activated that use the F9 key as a trigger, you should deactivate those other gestures first. How to find and troubleshoot gestures is well explained in the following Second Life® Knowledge Base article:

N° 9 Premium comes included with a HUD that can be used to open your own collar menu.

Once you added someone else to your collar, they can use the following command in the Nearby Chat to access your collar's menu:

Another convenient way for others to access your collar would be if they used the NX Remote or N° 9 Mini Remote.

A snug fit

When first attaching a scripted N° 9 collar, it is best to clear the Neck attachment spot first. Take off whatever you had attached to the Neck, then wear the collar, and finally add back whatever else you have been wearing previously at the Neck attachment spot, if anything.

Open the collar's menu, then select the "About" option, and then the "Size" option.

Next right-click your collar in your inventory and select Edit.

Next you want to use the percentage buttons, or the [ + ] and [ - ] buttons in the size menu of your collar.

Depending how well the collar fit you right out of the box, you might have to make it slightly larger or smaller. The "Current size" can show percentage values that are slightly off, but don't feel irritated by that, Second Life® is not an exact science. Focus on the fit of your collar. ♥

Now you want to use the Blue Arrow to move the collar gently higher or lower. Using a mouse pointer device helps, but you can also do it with a trackpad, just be patient. If you botched it press [Ctrl] + [Z] to undo. Try not to get frustrated. When adjusting accessory it can help to disable "Show Highlight" in the Build Tools, that will remove the glowing outlines around the 3D model, and reveals some greater detail.

The "Size" menu can be a fantastic time saver if you are a little clumsy like Wendy. It keeps your collar centered, so all that you need to adjust is the Z axis with the blue arrow and click some buttons. Once you mastered that you can adjust any other item you pick up as well.

Changing colors

Most collars that are commercially available from other parties include HUDs that can be used to select colors. Our own collars all come with integrated color changing. Not only does that save script memory, but it also saves us valuable screen real estate. To change the color, open your collar's menu and select the "About" option, then select "Look", and you will be presented with a color change menu.

Play with me!

All geared up and ready to sign your life away for the next dominant? Perfect! On Second Life that's exactly how this works. ♥

Bonds and relationships happen quickly, romances burn brightly, fast and very hot, and not just that: Things get extra-ordinarily kinky. We would go as far as to claim that the most vanilla person Second Life® has at least a pee fetish.

Good. Now that this is out of the way, let's teach you how to set up your collar for play time.

Granting temporary access

Every N° 9 collar has an option to add temporary playmates.

To access it, open your collar's menu, then select "Kidnap".

Like most unique N° 9 features, there is an ON / OFF switch. We call this an "action button". Whenever there is an action, you will see all capital letters describing what happens when you press it.

That means pressing "ON" will turn a feature on, which is exactly what we want to do here. Now with the "kidnap mode" turned on, others can touch your neck and request access to play with you.

If you are brand new to all of this, that's all you should do for now.

New players should keep the "Risky" setting disabled.

What if the dominant sucked?

Well, that happens. We all have different interests, expectations, and fetishes. If you didn't really warm up to Master Systempants, maybe you will have a better time with Mistress Lickalot. In our subculture we don't really get judgy. That's why it is very important that you communicate the things you like rather than only talking about the things you don't like. When somebody shows interest, it is not an insult, or an invasion. They may like your avatar, or something you wrote in your profile. Or maybe they are just super horny. That's fine. Try to be polite with the dominant, have a brief exchange about your needs, and don't spoil your adventure by drowning it with too much talk.

Now that this is out of the way...

When you select the "Kidnap" option from your menu, you can simply "Release" yourself from the temporary playmate.

The "kidnappers" have a RELEASE option too when accessing your main menu. Either of you can end the interaction at any time.

Keep in mind that power exchange is fundamentally based on consent, and that either part has to be okay with things.

Seasoned players can explore the Heartcore option, where things get a bit more risky. You can learn more about later in the docs.

MAYDAY

Finally, we should talk about the safeword.

In this context "safewording" means that you are not comfortable with what is going on right now. Using the safeword lets your dominant know that they should stop what they are doing right now, and initiate a dialog, so you can communicate what is wrong.

When you get into S&M things, you might not know or understand your own limits yet. These limits can be physical things that you don't like, but they can also be psychological, or emotional things.

The safeword is your most important tool to explore these limits safely. In N° 9 the default safeword that always works is MAYDAY.
Picture
To use the safeword, speak it out loud, and because we are on Second Life® that means: Type it in the Nearby Chat.

Sometimes you are unable to use the Nearby Chat. Maybe something is restricted through a collar feature, or you are wearing another toy, like a gag. In this case you can use "roleplay brackets" to speak the safeword. Just wrap it into double parenthesis, like that ((MAYDAY)).

Are you ready?

Don't be afraid. There are some people on Second Life® who aren't really nice, but they will find their home on your block list soon enough.

You came here to play, and that is what you shall do. You can be any gender you want, you can make your avatar look the way you want, and nobody can tell you what you "should like", or how you "should behave". Stay polite and positive, and never forget that when you log into Second Life® it is entirely up to you who you interact with, and how you choose to spend your precious free time. ♥

If you don't know where to go, maybe a first stop could be the Temple of the Collar™ in the Astra region.

The space has no dressing code, no special etiquette, it is a particularly non-judgemental space, LGBTQ+ friendly, any gender and creature are welcome there. You can go there and decorate your avatar while flirting or collecting messages from others who want to chat or play.

We also have a Discord server with hundreds of members online simultaneously where you can let your hair down, and make new friends.
